    When articles, videos and podcasts are native #ActivityPub, maybe people will just boost them directly instead of everybody writing their own posts linking to them. I really wish quote boosts had this functionality in mind. Same with podcatchers, video players and reader apps in the future. Show me what's most boosted in my social graph of the content type you're designed for.

    Making all media management better and attention more democratically allocated is the "killer app" of the #SocialWeb.

      @wjmaggos Videos and articles can be boosted and quoted... Unless you're on Mastodon.

          @wjmaggos

          Maybe what @silverpill was trying to say was — ActivityPub already has support for them (articles, videos, podcasts):

          Link Preview Image
          Activity Vocabulary

          favicon

          (www.w3.org)

          Link Preview Image

          favicon

          Link Preview Image
          Activity Vocabulary

          favicon

          (www.w3.org)

          But, you are correct, that — their software would have to output ActivityPub data when called with "Accept: application/activity+json".

            @reiver @wjmaggos Yes, and ActivityPub-enabled software that produces these documents already exists. I'll quote a Video and an Article here:

            quote 1

            quote 2

            Quotes won't be displayed in Mastodon, but you can view them on my site.

              @silverpill @reiver

              we need to add podcasts and have player apps interface directly.

              could we enable podcatchers to follow an AP account that posts podcasts and handle it just like it does an RSS podcast feed, but also let us boost back to my social graph and add replies? etc etc. same thing I want from my article reader app @wallabag.

                @wjmaggos @reiver I am not very familiar with podcasting universe but maybe this is already possible with podcastindex?

                It seems to work like a bridge, and its podcast announcements can be boosted like regular posts. I can't link to a specific post (their server returns an error right now), but here's an example of a podcast actor: @920666

                I don't know if it supports replies, IIRC there are other podcast apps that do support them.

                  I should first mention — Castopod.

                    But, podcasting software could add support for ActivityPub directly.

                    And then, look for Objects that either are type="Audio", or type="Video", or that aren't those but have an attachment of type="Audio", or type="Video".
