Dear Fedi friends,

@_elena You can grab the domains but will it be worth the energy?
You know who controls most of the French media and how little credibility they have left. I would not base my work on theirs β and I am a journalist (not for French media) living in France.
It's like the question: Do politicians waste energy to fight the so-called "Peace's Board" or do they fight for peace structures like the UN and reforming them?
Do we fight blown up "alternatives" or do we fight *for* our visions?@NatureMC I'm planning to write a blog post about it - I'm pretty strong at the SEO game and I'd like to write an article with evidence that people can easily find / refer to.
I only grabbed one domain name for 4 Euros... some awesome fedi people have grabbed other TLD in the same spirit.
An article I wrote years ago on my blog exposing a big company still gets lots of hits - a decade later!
I simply can't stay silent on this...

@_elena in my opinion, it's a waste of energy. I'd rather focus bringing more politicians here
everton137 (@everton137@vivaldi.net)
Over the past few days, the @leavex@mastodon.social account has gained almost 500 new followers. Until recently, the Bluesky account (@leavex.eu@bsky.brid.gy) had nearly 1000 followers and was ahead of the Fediverse version. That situation has now reversed. This shift seems closely tied to the recent revamp of the #LeaveX campaign, which now includes statistics on how many politicians are still using X. Increased visibility also played an important role: the project was shared widely by @randahl@mastodon.social, an account with a large following, which likely contributed significantly to the surge in followers. Whatβs particularly interesting is that the Mastodon account consistently receives more attention and interaction than the Bluesky account. This suggests that, at least for political topics, engagement currently can run deep on the Fediverse. 1/2 #Fediverse #Mastodon #Bluesky #Politics #LeaveX #SocialMedia

@_elena This I understand completely, do it!
My comment was more if you plan a big long lasting campaign ... -
Dear Fedi friends,
I'm pretty fired up exposing the ridiculousness of #WSocial, a new social network purported to be a European alternative to X that launched at Davos (yikes).
The French press devoted many articles to it (meanwhile: crickets about the Fediverse).
Before I go full steam ahead grabbing domain names and creating a web site that shows the weaknesses of W / suggests to check out the Fediverse instead, I want to put it to you: should I do it?
@_elena I voted yes. But maybe it would be better to put energy into making the fediverse more accessible. Even to my medium tech savy friends, the fact that you have to choose a server is complicated. So either they choose the default one or they donβt join because they don't see the point in all these different servers (lots of people are lazy to read and be interested). Your introduction was really nice but we might need more βtutorialsβ/why? video's or texts.

@joakimfors OMG this is BRILLIANT!

@_elena @joakimfors wsocial.social is available

@0xtero I found out some really disturbing things about this initiative and I don't want to stay silent. I may write a blog post about it, collecting and sharing the evidence... so that if people appreciate what I write, they could point others to it (people looking at the initiative with interest or journalists for example).
And hey I grabbed a domain name that is PERFECT as a short URL / to redirect to my article. Sometimes staying silent on these things is dangerous
@_elena Ok, now I'm intrigued and want to know the details
I just hate how this was branded as "European answer" by the press, like it would be official EU project - when it clearly was just attention grab by some limelight hungry random CEO. Luckily it doesn't seem to have had much news value (papers in Sweden didn't pick it up) -

@_elena to be very honest, I think you can drive that energy towards something more constructive. Too bad that Fediverse gets only crickets in terms of press attention, but it is what it is. We are growing. Less than others, but who cares? It is about quality, not quantity.

@_elena buy domains and put your video. I can chip in!

Still researching the claims

@FrankauLux @_elena all they did was tap the EU for funding and theyβre so cautious and clueless they backed it because they used the right buzzwords
@humanhorseshoes @FrankauLux @_elena
Do you know if w received any eu funding?
