Pixelfed has always been and will always be a platform that centers photos and creative artwork first and foremost.

It is deliberately not a microblogging platform, there are plenty of other microblogging platforms.

The criticism? I hear it. But we're not backing down from our vision.

Photo sharing first, foremost and forever.

@dansup Understandably, but isn't posed as an alternative for things like Instagram?

@dansup what I don't get, something I have seen time and time again, is people criticizing @dansup.

@marbletravis it's a lot easier to criticize than to build something worthwhile, that people actually use.

@dansup I don't "feel" like this app has really taken off at all, but I personally don't want or need an instagram-like app, no thank you.

@dansup that person’s criticism is going a bit too far imo. The protocol does not require every app to support every kind of content. I do wish there was a different object type used for photo-specific posts with a caption vs notes that happen to have media attachments. That would make it more obvious they are different types of content for all apps trying to display them.

jesseplusplus@mastodon.social dansup@mastodon.social given that Mastodon's non-Note handling is much improved the time is now for inventing new object types!

@julian @dansup I haven’t actually seen too much of how it handles non-note objects these days - I think articles are the only ones I’ve actually noticed. Can you point me at a good example?

jesseplusplus@mastodon.social dansup@mastodon.social well that was primarily the one. But they didn't specifically code to better handle articles, the same improvements apply to any non-Note, I believe...

@dansup let me insist as a backer of the project. Isn't Pixelfed posed as an alternative to Instagram as well? At least in a secondary role if not first and foremost as you say. Thank you.
