"The European Commission's fine isn't just an attack on X, it's an attack on all American tech platforms and the American people by foreign governments," Rubio wrote in a post on X.
"The days of censoring Americans online are over."
His remarks were reposted by Musk, who added "absolutely".

Today we are calling on institutions around the world to take control of their #DigitalSovereignty, including their social accounts. Governments should communicate directly with their citizens on open platforms, not through the mouthpiece of a corporation.

I'm this context, foreign-owned matters too.
Regulators are in a bind because they can threaten to block ordinary users' access to platforms (VPNs etc notwithstanding) but can't compel foreign corps to do anything, and they often ignore fines. If regulators then do block them, it's a vote loser. -
