The official client is an emacs package, interesting! These parts from the readme made me chuckle:

To consume and read other users' feeds, you can read them manually, use a script, or a client.

Because of the decentralised nature it is very difficult to discover new users.

I'm getting all my friends into Meshtastic, a system of mesh networked packet radios that can be very cheap and do not require a HAM license.

A few of us will be trying out then forking a BBS running on an RPi connected to a radio node. Though that will technically be less decentralized, it will be more social media like.

Matrix has at least 3 times as many users as bluesky. And most servers arent even publishing their users counts. But arguably most people arent using matrix as a social media platform. I wouldnt count discord as traditional social media either.

Heads up, the encryption has been cracked, and not fixed as far as I'm aware. Still works as radio though.

                  T_T

WHY DOES EMACS HAVE A EXTENSION FOR FUCKING EVERYTHING?!

It's meant to be a text editor. That's it.

Yes... but also WordPress is supposed to be a blogging platform, and now it powers like half the web.

People hack around the arbitrary limitations of software all the time!
