The relationship between animation and music

Continuing the discussion from Discoverability on the Fediverse and Thought Dump:
I suspect Loops.video will be a better experience than PT for this kind of usage. Source code isnt available yet, and I'm not even sure if federation is working. But once it matures, I suspect it's going to be a gamechanger.

Yes, I think more folks will go there for short form and because it'll probably look closer to Reels, TikTok, etc. but I'll probably still stick to PeerTube - I've been really impressed with how much control you can have over everything, like re-uploading videos and how well the federated aspect works (although there's always room for further improvement). The Vimeo comparison is a good one as well. It's possibly seems more appealing for the uploader than the viewer currently. When I asked the animator question in the PeerTube Reddit community, I got recommended the category list and I could either choose from music or art, but I think animation should be its own category.

Big Updates Are Coming to Loops
Loops, the open source Tiktok alternative for the Fediverse, is continuing to evolve. Here's what's new for the video platform.
We Distribute (wedistribute.org)

Thanks heaps for this link @limebar
"The backend code for Loops has been open to the wider community for a while ..."
I obviously hadn't caught up with this. #MeaCulpa. For anyone curious, the code is on GritHib. More directly relevant to this community is the plans for the 'Loops Sound Library';
"Details on this feature are scarce, but this NLNet-funded project is designed to allow Loops videos to incorporate music from Fediverse musicians that allow for remixing and resharing. The feature reportedly will allow users to select tracks from Funkwhale and possibly other federated music platforms for background music in their videos, while preserving attribution."
Thoughts?

Wish I could see some examples of Loops on their website without having to sign up (or am I being daft?)...

I’ve got an account. It doesn’t seem to have a very distinct culture yet: a lot of reposts from TikTok and Reels, with all the spammy feeling of those. Robot voices and algo-baiting content farm feel
My hope is that if it becomes properly federated, we can have short-video sharing from ALL the Fedi platforms, and Loops culture will get more of a unique identity. Then it becomes more useful to musicians & artists!
My fear is that the dev takes on too many projects (Pixelfed, plus many others — like Fedi DB) and maybe won’t learn to work smoothly with others. Fingers crossed these projects will open out a little bit.

Hmm. Yeah, sometimes when a new platform is positioned as "an alternative to [corporate] platform", users of the service aggressively bring that culture with them even if the design is somewhat different. That's kind of how I feel about Bluesky (and maybe I'm being unfair, since that has algos too which may subtly manipulate behaviour without you realising, so maybe it still is part of their design), but I didn't want to be on something else where people are replicating bad patterns and desperate for engagement at the expense of everything else (or just "going where the majority goes"). I do bridge my account though and try to entice people to the federated side. I hope Loops attracts people doing interesting projects who've perhaps had enough of Instagram rather than those looking to faithfully replace it, if that makes sense.
I did see as well the dev getting annoyed at a comment about security and I can understand that it must be frustrating having put loads of effort into something and seeing things being picked apart, but again, maybe that's because previous social platforms have conditioned us all to read things as if we're constantly gearing up for an argument.
