Fediverse

What exactly would a federated alternative to this look like for you? It's a block of metadata.

I'm already aware (and active) on LemmyNSFW. What I was imagining though, was a platform like Peertube or Lemmy, only JUST for NSFW. Kinda like having Pornhub, but decentralized. Sex Workers could have their videos/stories/etc. on there, and perhaps use either payment apps like: PayPal, Cash App, etc. to enact transactions. Perhaps call it something like BlueTube (because Blue Balls), or something similar.

Hubzilla was my first foray into fediverse. I like a lot of what it does and how it does things especially the nomadic users. Zot is also really interesting and a good contender to ap.

Frankly, I don't think the privacy model of the fediverse is workable at all and it doesn't seem to be developed and maintained by people who understand or care about safety. The centralized systems are much safer for users because you only have to trust the admins of the centralized servers. Fediverse's Achilles heel is trust and all the convo and discussion about it is extremely dismissive and superficial about the realities of how the centralized systems became they way they are--much safer against stalking and mobs. Fediverse mostly gets away with this by being small and fringe. The fundamental flaw is laid bare every time a site defederates another about because of safety issues. It's a tacit concession that the federation model and implementation is not safe. If you have to defederate everyone to ensure user safety, then why bother with the fediverse in the first place? This is the core problem with the fediverse as it exists today.

South Africa still exists, as does Rhodesia (modern day Zimbabwe) to name two examples that often come up in relation to Israel. Note that calling for Zimbabwe/South Africa style change to Israel is also against the rule, as they made it clear in the comments that any calls for reform that include violence against Israel are forbidden. Also no, Rhodesia does not still exist, that's an absurd thing to say.

Like… a wiki for memes? Some already exist AFAIK, even though they aren’t fully decentralized per se. The problem is you need people documenting this stuff, like KYM presumably pays their staff to do, and good SEO to snag critical mass. That is a tall order for a volunteer Fediverse project of this nature, I think.

Kinda bad/traumatizing that this led me to a gore server in the top recommendations for Peertube.
