Images don't federate -
Images don't federateStrange I cant find the topic on search,
or your username in search.
Between nodebb sites I would have expected that to work
Edit, I had the @ at the beginning of your id, and that stopped search finding you! -
Images don't federateJust curious do your images federate between nodebb sites. If you want to DM me your site I can do a test from mine?
One thing I now appreciate is it must be a huge challenge for julian to fix cross federation to all sites, because you cant control what 3rd parties do. And Lemmy for example, is a law to inself on some things -
Hide the "Moved" arrowGreat, can you explain best way to access topic hash and remove it please?
-
Hide the "Moved" arrowIs there a way to edit the database so move field is cleared?
I moved some of my forums initial posts a long time ago and dont need the moved arrow or the 'moved from xyz' against them now. -
Updates to the world pageThis looks good.
Just my thoughts on Lemmy, I have various issues with it not federating well to various site at times. I mention this only if you encounter testing issues with Lemmy, more likely the issue is their side.
It has some good features but its frustrating as the instance I use appears to have issues at times! -
Live testing of remote categoriesEdit: updated as had to click into category to follow
-
Live testing of remote categories@julian can you be specific in how to track it?
Although Ive found it I cant seem to follow / track that community.
What do I do? Apologies if Im being stupid, but Ive tried -
Live testing of remote categoriesThe search worked, it found the community, but there was no subscribe option.
When I tapped the bar that says number of current subscribers an error page showed !?
-
Live testing of remote categoriesThis is very interesting, so how do I use it?
So to try it here - Is there a remote-categories area somewhere?
For instance if I want to post to @medicine@mander.xyz where to select this? -
Forum specific UX for remote categoriesJust to say there are a lot of things NodeBB is getting right, in comparison to other Federated sites.
Mastodon is ok in some respects but when replies to threads come through the response comes in the feed alone and out of context. Nodebb shows the thread in World which is far better for following the discussion.
As for Lemmy, not sure if the instance Im on is not updated to latest version, but some things dont work well.
@Julian I only heard about Lemmy via you .. (Sometimes I wish Id never gone there lol)
It is good for searching, but its been problematic in other areas. Do you know who codes Lemmy and do they visit here, or is it someone in your federation network? -
NodeBB 4.2.0@julian I have upgraded to v4.2, but the world posts with no details came in before upgrade. I will keep eye on that as it could be fixed when something new comes in
-
NodeBB 4.2.0Theres improvement, more in my World now on the tags Im following, but these posts all say by 'Guest'.
When Im looking at the same thing from Lemmy there is more detail?
Are some of the fields not being picked up? -
Forum specific UX for remote categoriesIf a site has a 'niche' theme and you want to find people with likeminded interests out in the Fediverse, the searching would be useful.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Mastodon doesn't seem to have categories, Ive only seen it on Lemmy.
In a way a category on Lemmy is like a nodebb instance, as most nodebb instances are for a certain area.
So one might argue that posting on a particular nodebb forum is akin to posting on a Lemmy category? -
Categories following Federated Accounts? My first experience with Federation was with Calckey, (fork of Miskey.)
I liked some things about it, but there were forks of forks and I never knew in the end which variant of it was best to use -
Strange Follow request differenceYea, odd, I made a second account on mysite and that follows and unfollows normally.
So its a mystery why my first Admin account is doing it differently.
Maybe one day we will figure out whats altering the behaviour -
Strange Follow request differenceThanks, I tried unfollowing and following again, but its always the same.
On this instance it says following and my one it says 'cancell follow request' although the pop up box said 'You are now follwing etc'
I wonder is the difference because Im admin. It doesnt make sense why it displays differently -
Strange Follow request differenceI followed mander@medicine.xyz from my account on this instance, and another nodebb instance.
This one shows Following, the other shows pending!
Follows dont need acceptance do they, why the difference?

The state of conversational contexts (February 2025)That sounds good
-
The state of conversational contexts (February 2025)I get your dilema about should it post in world or in medicine@mander.xyz
So if I want it to go in mander@xyz how to specify that?
