@webhat yeah, and pro-LGBTQIA2S+ at 78% similarly sticks out. it's certianly possible people are getting confused -- it's happened before, and I now say in each post that people can vote for as many as they want, but it's still easy to miss. Then again it's also certainly possible that 9% of the people here don't care either way about whether or not it's an anti-racist environment -- or would even prefer an environment that isn't anti-racist. The number in society as a whole is a lot higher!

So all the servers that respect reply controls will "ignore" the reply and not display it, making it basically invisible to the original poster and pretty much all their followers.Outdated servers and servers set up to purposefully ignore reply controls can be blocked.Seems like a pretty good solution.

@TheShellyTea each language would be an alternate “version” of the post, properly tagged by language. Think of it as something like an alt text for the text. So you see the post in your preferred language if that version is available, instead of seeing both texts together with only one indicated as the language of the post.

@jackwilliambell I think you should look into #XMPP. Jabber/XMPP servers tend to be fairly generic. Using XMPP for social media is a bit niche but not without precedent. (See @movim and Libervia)Yes, there is probably still work to do for what ever you want to do exactly. But at least there is a relatively solid base that you won't get when creating something entirely from scratch.

@bengo i'm genuinely curious to hear your thoughts on this matter, because it seems to me like activitypub and fedi were never really on the same page, and the w3c spec diverged from the mastodon network almost before it was ever published. is there a path to fixing this within w3c cg/wg structure? what does that look like? are there any other paths?
